AustinPeptide DeskA guide to care

A plain-language guide Welcome desk

Austin peptide doctors:
begin with the facts.

Understand the medicine. Check the care. Know what to ask before a visit.

Peptides are short strings of joined pieces called amino acids, like beads on a string.

Those same pieces also make up proteins.

Different peptides have different jobs; some peptide medicines help with blood sugar or weight.

The US medicine-review agency is the Food and Drug Administration, shortened to FDA.

To find care, first name the health concern you want to address, then identify the exact product on offer.

Start with the care questions
Three kinds of products called peptides.
“Peptide”
  1. Medicine approved by the FDA

A particular medicine reviewed for a particular use.

  2. Pharmacy-made (compounded) medicine

Prepared by a pharmacist or doctor.

  3. Product labelled “for research”

Ask whether the product is meant for use in people.

These categories carry different rules as of September 2026.

The medicine

The product matters more than the word.

Myth

If it is a peptide, it is the same kind of treatment.

As of September 2026, US-approved products containing semaglutide or tirzepatide treat type 2 diabetes or help with weight management; the approved use varies by product.

Semaglutide is sold as Ozempic for type 2 diabetes and as Wegovy for weight management.

Tirzepatide is sold as Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes and as Zepbound for weight management.

With compounding, a pharmacist or doctor prepares the medicine in place of supplying a factory-finished product.

As of September 2026, the FDA has not approved compounded medicines and does not assess their safety, quality or results before sale.

Sort out approval and evidence

The place

Online doctors still need Texas permission.

Myth

An online doctor can treat me from anywhere.

Telehealth is a way to receive care remotely, for example by video.

For online care of a patient in Texas, a doctor generally must hold a full Texas medical licence as of September 2026.

The exception is for doctors who already held a Texas out-of-state telemedicine licence on September 1, 2022.

If a doctor claims this exception, ask the Texas Medical Board to confirm the licence and whether it allows your care.

Get the full name of your prescriber, the person writing your prescription. Ask which pharmacy will supply the medicine. Check those names in the Texas board records.
