Austin, Texas Checks & cautions

Check the offer. Keep a way to get help.

Before making a decision, get the medicine name, the pharmacy name, and a clear answer about who handles questions between visits.

The US medicine-review agency is the Food and Drug Administration, shortened to FDA.

The prescription

A visit should review your health before choosing medicine.

Myth

A prescription is optional if I know the medicine I want.

Before a pharmacy supplies prescription medicine, federal law requires a valid prescription as of September 2026.

FDA’s online-pharmacy checklist includes a licence, a valid prescription, and a pharmacist who can answer questions.

A convincing web page can be a fake storefront; check the pharmacy’s actual licence record.

The label

“Research” does not make a care plan.

Myth

A research label makes a product suitable for people.

As of September 2026, FDA warns of unknown quality and possible harm from weight-loss drugs offered for human use despite a research label.

Do not treat “for research use only” as a route to personal treatment.

In compounding, a pharmacist or doctor prepares medicine in place of supplying a factory-finished product.

FDA says poor compounding can bring germs into medicine or put its active ingredient above or below the correct amount.

The active ingredient is the part of the medicine doing the work.

The medicine semaglutide is used as Ozempic to treat type 2 diabetes and as Wegovy to help manage weight.

As of September 2026, FDA has received reports of illness after possible errors in the amount of pharmacy-made semaglutide injected; some people needed hospital treatment.

Some reports involved people measuring the wrong amount for a shot; others involved a health professional calculating it incorrectly.

If you must measure medicine for a shot, ask who will explain the label and show you how to use the syringe.

When medicine arrives

Storage is specific to the product.

Myth

Every peptide has the same storage rule.

Storage rules vary by medicine; follow the product’s own instructions rather than a rule for all peptides.

Medicines called GLP-1 drugs can help with blood sugar or weight, depending on the product.

FDA advises people not to use GLP-1 shots delivered warm or without sufficient refrigeration.

If something went wrong

Use the route that fits the concern.

Patients can report a medicine problem through FDA’s MedWatch service.
